- In July of 2006 I began an extended contract where I helped re-skin the AT&T web sites after the merger with SBC. I collaborated with both external agency and internal AT&T groups to produce both static sites and create templates for dynamic sites.
- From May of 2005 – May 2006, I worked a contract for Pervasive Software on the web team. It consisted mostly of HTML email campaigns and newsletter marketing utilizing both Eloqua and Vignette Dialog along with some web maintenance to Pervasive.com, Pervasive-Postgres.com, and Pervasive's Intranet. In addition to these duties, I programmed some classic ASP to link web forms to a marketing database. Some minimal design work was created on occasion.
- My work from August 2003 – January 2005 consisted of web design, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript coding for a software company (Triand, Inc.) who provides web application tools for the education market. I worked with a team of software developers, usability experts, and education professionals to provide easy-to-use and valuable reporting, curriculum management, and web-enabled student transcript software. I worked on both the marketing and product side of this business. I was responsible for all HTML, CSS, cross-browser QA, and graphic work.
- I cut my teeth on a 60,000 page static html web site (Tivoli.com). After immersion in its complicated nested table code, subsequently nothing is difficult. The CSS and most of the include files were my responsibility from September 2000 – February 2002.
- As the web designer at Tivoli, I designed the look and feel of the masthead and the left navigation along with the footer of the site. This involved extensive planning and hard detailed work to launch the project smoothly. The site was 60,000 static HTML pages linking to server side includes. I was solely responsible for the redesign done in 2001. I edited every page of the site due to code inconsistency. The redesign included educating the rest of the team about the changes and how it affected their work. I worked with the IBM.com web team to help move Tivoli.com towards an IBM look and feel for the future move to IBM.com. Since I left in February 2002, the entire site has moved to IBM.com and completely changed.
Example of ingenuity:
- Saved money, time, and redundancy for the storage division at Tivoli while working as an HTML coder. I created a solution to resemble database functionality without the need for a back end database system creation. I used server side includes and HTML.
Example of learning ability and flexibility:
- Learned Flash while on the job as web designer. Initial learning done editing and updating multi-million dollar Flash sitelet created by outside firm – MarchFIRST. Later projects involved creating animated gifs and some action scripting.
Example of design range:
- Initiated work on branding including everything from business cards and letterhead to cd labels coordinating everything to create a cohesive company in print for a new startup company.
- I am able to illustrate just about anything I set my mind upon. From drawing animals up to highly detailed and realistic vector illustrations of computer hardware, I am skilled enough to create anything. I am unable to display the hardware illustrations as they are proprietary.
Accessibility and cross browser compatibility:
- There are more than 49 million people in the United States alone that have some form of disability that could benefit from web sites built supporting accessibility. This enables more visitors to order merchandise which leads to higher profit.
http://www.knowbility.org Not my work however it includes more information on accessibility. - I believe in having the cleanest, most perfectly written code possible. I currently cross check these browsers: PC - Internet Explorer (5.5, 6, & 7), Opera, and Firefox; Mac: Safari and Firefox.
- Usability of a site is important or you lose customers due to the fact a site is too difficult to use. The point is to not make people think too much and make the site seem effortless.
Volunteer work:
- I previously volunteered for GENaustin where my duties spanned designing the intranet site from the ground up, to minor updates of content, to administration of the web site. In addition I mentored other web team volunteers to help them expand their skills in HTML and CSS etc so that they are more valuable to the non-profit.
- I was approached to help the Hyde Park Neighborhood Association redesign the home tour web site for 2003. They were very pleased with the outcome. The home tour event was June 14-15, 2003.
- I spent many hours working with MAIN.org in redesigning their web site. I also helped with one of their web raisings benefitting local non-profits. In 4 hours I helped redesign and code a new web site for the JJ Seabrook Neighborhood Association.
